Saving time with recording templates

As you probably know, all the ClickLearn content is based on a source file (the recording) and the template that you are working with: Recording + template = content files You can modify your template to fit your corporate identity, but it can do even more than that! If you have a generic build that you want to embed into all your recordings, you don’t have to add it to each recording; you can simply modify your recording template to include any chapters, subchapters and notes for all future recordings. Watch this video to see how you can do this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HlDJHTA4j54

Introducing ClickLearn learning formatsF.A.Q.

The following lines offer explanations of all the ClickLearn learning formats (HTML, pdf, etc.), with examples.  When you create content with ClickLearn, you can produce multiple formats. The produced formats depend both on your settings in ClickLearn studio as well as the workspace file (template) that you have chosen in your template settings.  In general, you will define this by the workspace file, however, you can also select this in the properties in ClickLearn Studio, in case you need to control it manually.        The HTML document is the first document that the consumer will be looking into. The file format is viewable on any device and holds all the instructions in a written format. It shows all the recorded steps and all other information that has been added to the recording file.  Here is an example where you can see two of the steps for this recording, showing both the instruction in writing (on the left) and the cropped images with the highlighted areas (on the right).

Steps and best practices on implementing APT with ClickLearn

APT (Automatic Process Testing) sounds great, it sounds like something that can do all the work for you! It really is a fantastic tool, but it also needs an in-depth understanding of ClickLearn and the business system that you want to support.  APT makes sense if you want to test your processes end-to-end. For example, here is a list of small processes that could go together in ERP systems:  Creating a sales order  Adding an item to the sales order  Confirming the sales order line  Connecting the sales order to a shipment  These four different processes would typically involve four different work instructions to be created for the end users, however they also need to work together as a flow of processes.  To test this, you can put all four processes into a book and replay the complete book. When you do this, make sure that the next process can start where the first one ended and so forth.  When replaying in general, you must ensure that all your data is valid and

LMS Tracking with SCORM

SCORM is short for “Sharable Content Object Reference Model” and is a standard that define the data and information that a learning object contains to be compliant with other systems.  If you have a SCORM-compliant LMS (learning management system) you can use ClickLearn to create SCORM packages from your content and import them into your LMS. This is useful for reporting purposes and if you need to provide certifications for your users through your own LMS.  The SCORM packages can be produced on either book- or shelf-level. To do this, you set the SCORM version in the preferences of the book or the shelf. Remember to have the book/shelf open to get the right preferences.     In the preferences you can choose the relevant SCORM type and whether you want to include the HTML video formats. You can also choose to “Forward sequence only” not giving the end users the option of choosing their own sequence.     Once you have made your selections you must produce the book/shelf. You can

Publishing content on ClickLearn ContentCloudF.A.Q.

Once you have completed e.g. a shelf in ClickLearn Studio, you probably need to distribute it further.  One of the ways to distribute content is by publishing it to the ClickLearn ContentCloud. This is by far the easiest way of distributing, while keeping the content easy to update. And it also means that you don’t need to use your own storage.  All ClickLearn customers have access to the ContentCloud and can freely publish their content there. This does NOT mean that all other ClickLearn customers will have access to your published content; you will only have access to the content that you or your colleagues have published.  If you want to see how this is done, check out this link.

Creating content in different languagesF.A.Q.

Many organizations face requirements to produce documentation and work instructions in multiple languages. Using ClickLearn, an author will be able to save both time and resources on translations. But it is important to note that working with translation and multiple languages can still be a time-consuming and costly process.    The content that you produce with ClickLearn Studio can be produced in any language. The wording in ClickLearn can be divided into three different categories:    Manually entered words, which cover all titles, headlines and notes.  Words coming from the template, which are automatically added into the documentation. Words coming from the system – words that ClickLearn captures in the recording process which are in a bold format.    The manually entered words (1) can be translated with the Auto Translation in ClickLearn Studio. This is a pretty good translation in most cases, but of course, not perfect. This translation service is based on the Azure translator.

ClickLearn ContentCloud trackingF.A.Q.

All authors have access to the ClickLearn ContentCloud, and you can easily set up tracking on a shelf. That way you can get the analytics into the dashboard in the Cloud Portal.  In the Cloud Portal, you can create the Tracking ID in the tracking menu – click on the menu “Tracking”.       Simply click on the link “Add tracking”, give your Tracking ID a name and click “Save Changes”.      This will generate a unique Tracking ID which is ready to be copied into your shelf.  In the list of your Tracking ID’s you must click on the copy icon to copy the link.      Now open the shelf in the recording list and go to “Tools>Preferences” to edit the preferences of the shelf. Here you’ll need to go to the tab “Tracking” and paste in the Tracking ID.      When the Tracking ID has been entered, you can confirm with the “OK” button.      The Tracking ID has now been set up and you can see the analytics in the “Dashboard”.  Make sure to have the tracking checked in the list in the “Dashboard.

ClickLearn TerminologyF.A.Q.

ClickLearn Studio is an application with which authors can record business processes in IT systems. The application runs on Microsoft Windows and must be installed on the client computer which runs the application. In the following lines I’ll outline the native ClickLearn file formats.    ClickLearn file formats Files created with ClickLearn Studio have their own filename extensions which can be either .clrx, .clbx, .clsx, .clnhx and .clwx. These files are only used by ClickLearn Studio and cannot be deployed directly to any other platform. These files are what we define as source files in ClickLearn.    The recording has the filename extension .clrx and is the main file in ClickLearn. It is the result of the recording process. When a business process has been recorded with ClickLearn Studio, the author is asked by the application to save the recording as a file with the filename extension .clrx. The recording can then be edited, translated, and produced from within ClickLearn Studio.
