Book missing from shelf when content is produced:

This typically, for one of the following reasons,

  1. The book is empty.

An empty book, which contains no recordings, is not included in a shelf.

  1. The book title, or one of it’s recordings, contains illegal/unsupported characters.

Some characters are used in URL strings, these are not allowed.

Instead, please use the title option in the book or recording, or even shelf preferences.

In the title, anything goes!

Recording missing from book:

Same as above, typically due to an illegal character in the title.

The solution to this is the same. At clicklearn we do the best we can to have aotomatic solutions and workarounds for these types of scenarios, but there are so many unicode characters that we cannot catch them all first time around. The above method will ensure that your content is displayed as YOU intended.

I get a message when I produce, saying that  the maximum length of 260 characters is reached:

Microsoft Windows has a 255 character limitation in its full path name. This length is quickly exceeded if you have complex book structures, and also store your recordings on a network share.

It is the entirety of the name in the path of the produced content that counts.

A book is placed in a subfolder of the shelf folder, and recordings in further subfolders of each book subfolder – so this quickly becomes a long path.

So, for example:

\\clicklearn-FS\support\customercare\documentation\support documents\training\projects\webserver documents\hosting a webserver\basics\how to configure a webserver in Windows Server 2008 R2\ how to configure a webserver in Windows Server 2008 R2.html

This is already 250 characters!

To resolve this, I suggest you store your clicklearn shared content on a shorter path. You can start by either mapping the network share so that it is called for example T:\clicklearn

For the above, this would become:

T:\clicklearn\hosting a webserver\basics\how to configure a webserver in Windows Server 2008 R2\ how to configure a webserver in Windows Server 2008 R2.html

or you can move the content to a subfolder on the root of the share, for example:

\\clicklearn-FS\clicklearn\

If you need to shorten it further, you can rename the clicklearn files to be shorter and use the Title field in the properties for the shelf, book, recording respectively – here that are no limitations!

For example:

A very long filename

filename shortened

A long title is set instead

If we apply all 3 methods, we end up with this:

T:\clicklearn\host web\basic\web cfg 2k8\web cfg 2k8.html

A mere 58 charactersdown from 250!
