ClickLearn is a powerful software solution for creating and publishing learning content. One important decision that you'll need to make when using ClickLearn is whether to use it on-premise or in the cloud. Here's what you need to know about the differences between these two options:

ClickLearn Source Files

If you choose to use ClickLearn on-premise, you'll miss out on all of the collaboration features that come with the cloud version. While individual files can be shared, they will be two separate versions, which can lead to version conflicts. To avoid this, it is recommended that you define and establish an authoring and publishing process internally.

Additionally, files have to be stored locally, and they cannot be shared or loaded into multiple ClickLearn studio instances. There are no collaboration features, such as multi-author editing, commenting, or task management. You will be responsible for redundancy and hosting, and ClickLearn support cannot help you restore lost files as they are not hosted by us.

If you are using our voice server, you are still sending the text to us for audio file generation. If you wish to not send us the text, you can use the local text-to-speech options in the program. However, they will sound robotic in comparison to the professional voice actors that are used on our voice server.

ClickLearn Content Publishing

You can still publish content to anywhere you want, including our content cloud, regardless of whether you're using the on-premise or cloud version. However, if you're using an on-premise license for legal reasons, we have no method of limiting where the final content is being published by your authors. Therefore, we recommend that you define and establish an authoring and publishing process internally, or have a specific person responsible for publishing and deploying the finalized content to the end users.

In summary, the decision to use ClickLearn on-premise or in the cloud depends on your specific needs and preferences. While on-premise gives you more control over hosting and storage, cloud-based ClickLearn provides powerful collaboration features and easy access to professional voice actors. Regardless of which option you choose, ClickLearn is a powerful tool for creating and publishing learning content.
