This is probably a really silly question….
When you set up a custom play button - where actually is it? Does it replace the semi-transparent pause icon that appears if you click to pause a video? Or does it appear right at the start?
I’ve uploaded a custom image to the Play button bit but I can’t work out from the structure preview where it would appear! :)

There are no silly questions, just silly answers!
thats exactly what it does, it replaces the play button - BUT you have to have the “play button” checkbox enabled.
Currently, though - there is an issue where the custom button isn’t added - i will update here when its fixed :)
