Continuing from installing ClickLearn Attain, the final part of the installation process is installing the ClickLearn extension and Native Messaging Host.

The ClickLearn Extension is an important component in recording any web app from your browser.

A web app is an application that runs on a remote web server. It is usually accessed using a web browser. Examples include Microsoft Dynamics 365 BC, CRM and Finance & Operations, IFS Aurena, and SalesForce.

For ClickLearn connectors to capture the information for ClickLearn recordings, you need to have the ClickLearn extension installed.

The Native Messaging Host, in turn, allows the ClickLearn extension to communicate with the recorder process.  Without these components installed, you will likely get an error similar to the one below.

ClickLearn Attain makes the installation process simple by prompting you to install the extension in your web browser (Edge or Chrome) immediately after installing the application.

In this demonstration, we are using Microsoft Edge as our browser of choice. If you are using Google Chrome, you can follow the same process.

To install the extension, click Yes. This usually completes the process.

If you have your web browser open, ClickLearn will prompt you to close it, as it can only install the extension when the web browser is inactive.

Close the web browser and click OK to complete the installation of the extension.

After the installation is complete, it will ask you to install the Native Messenger Host. Click Yes.

Next, click OK.

This completes setting up your ClickLearn extension and the Native Messaging Host. You can now launch your web app and record using ClickLearn.

Troubleshooting

If your web browser is not closed or has a process that is still running, you’ll keep getting the alert that you need to close all windows of your browser.

To troubleshoot this, first, open the Task Manager.

Next, click on the Details tab and locate your browser.

If you are using Microsoft Edge, the process will be listed as msedge.exe. If Chrome, it will show up as chome.exe.

Right-click the process and select End process tree. If required, repeat this step until all of the web browser’s processes have ended. Once the process vanishes, go back to ClickLearn attain and click OK to complete the installation of the extension.

Alternatively, you can use Command Prompt to accomplish the same thing.

Search for cmd/Command Prompt in Windows search bar.

Right-click the application and select Run as Administrator. If it requires a windows username and password, enter your credentials and click OK to open Command Prompt.

Type the command “taskkill /F /IM msedge.exe /T” and press Enter to terminate all its processes.

Note: If you are using Chrome, enter the command “taskkill /F /IM chrome.exe /T” to terminate all its processes.

Once all related running processes have been terminated, you can return to ClickLearn Attain and click OK to complete the installation process.

If you have removed your extensions and wish to re-install them again, please read this guide.
