What is it?

The ClickLearn extension for google chrome is an extension that allows for clicklearn studio’s recorder process to identify individual elements on webpages and system interfaces through google chrome.

The native messaging host allows for the google chrome extension to talk to clicklearn studio.

When is it used?

It is used only when the recorder process is running, otherwise it lies dormant.

Typical signs that this was not correctly installed are:

  • When recording in google chrome, the entire window is captured – and not the individual elements
  • In the ClickLearn recording, each step reads: ‘No template entry exists for this step’

See this guide for installation: https://help.clicklearn.com/ClickLearn%20Learning%20Portal/ClickLearn%20Learning%20Portal.htm?b=Web%20Browser%20support&r=Google%20Chrome%20connector

Please note that you will need modify permissions to the program data\clicklearn folder in order to install, but also for later execution. So, even if your IT has installed it, you may not have permissions to execute the glgchost.exe file unless the permissions were set. See how here

If you installed everything, but keep getting the message to install the native messaging host when you start chrome:

On some IT infrastructures the security is so strict, that each application needs to have its digital signature added to the corporate applocker.

In this instance, you may need your IT extract the certificate from the glgchost.exe file and add it to your trusted certificates.

Or

you can use a virtual machine to do your Chrome based recordings, this way you are using your own isolated environment where you are admin - invalidating the need to involve your IT security department for the certificate installation.

As the resolution for this can be a little complex, a call between your internal IT and the ClickLearn support staff may be in order.
